Ce projet est un hommage à Scott Anderson, l’un des grands façonneurs de planches de surf de Californie, décédé prématurément en 2021.
Sa contribution au monde du surf, en Californie et au delà, aura touché le plus grand nombre et continuera d’en influencer la sphère.
Je suis heureuse d’avoir eu la chance de le rencontrer de son vivant. Je souhaiterais remercier Scott et son staff de m’avoir accueillie pour cette session, ainsi que Jamie Brisick et les frères Marshall pour avoir facilité cette rencontre.
Ce portrait était alors pensé comme la première partie d’une longue série : un projet de livre pensé comme un atlas, référençant les façonneurs de planches majeurs de Californie, redonnant à l’artisanat et la matérialité une place d’honneur dans un monde de plus en plus immatériel, où les marges de profit et l’industrialisation l’emportent sur l’excellence d’un savoir-faire ancestral. Ce projet a malheureusement été avorté du fait de la pandémie et de ma relocalisation en Europe.
Son atelier à Hermosa Beach continue d’opérer et de produire de manière artisanale ses planches de surf légendaires.
Puisse Scott avoir trouvé sa dernière demeure et reposer en paix.

This project is a tribute to Scott Anderson, one of the great surfboard shapers of California, who passed away prematurely in 2021.
His contribution to the surfing community in California and beyond has touched so many lives and will continue to ripple through.
I’m grateful to have had the chance to meet him. I thank him and his staff for welcoming me for this shoot, as well as Jamie Brisick and the brothers Marshall for facilitating this encounter.
At the time, this portrait was the first of a long series: a book project conceived like an atlas, referencing the major surfboard shapers of California, giving craftsmanship and materiality its place of honor in an increasingly immaterial world, where profit margins and industrialisation are prevailing over the excellence of an ancestral savoir-faire. This project was unfortunately cut short by the pandemic and my relocation to Europe.
His workshop of Hermosa Beach lives on and keeps producing his legendary handcrafted boards.
May Scott have found his way home and rest in peace.
